A museum label was attached next to a hygro-thermograph in Kunstmuseum Dusseldorf in 1979. The artist coined the term ‘claimed’ object in recognition of its á priori presence in an art context to distinguish it from an objet trouvé. Her focus on this atmosphere-measuring instrument was a harbinger of her future involvement with paintings whose chemically treated surfaces cause them to change with the atmosphere. The title is a pun.
